Joshua accidentally didn't send us the letter he wrote last week. Here it is:
Last week's email that I accidentally forgot to send you guys! 😬
Hope you all had a good week! My week was great!
Monday! We did our usual morning P-Day routine. We bought some
charcoal, lighter fluid and other supplies so that we could have a
cook out with the zone at a nearby park. It was a lot of fun....but
now we're out of money haha :) We had volleyball and soccer games, and
a little bit of basketball. Elder Andersen and I spent most of our
time grilling, but it was a good time! That night we were supposed to
have a lesson with Adrian and Ericka, but Adrian hadn't gotten home
yet, so we posponed it for Tuesday. All the rest of our lessons that
day cancelled as well, so we did lots of contacting and set up some
lessons for later in the week.
Tuesday - On Tuesday morning we had our quarterly interviews with
President Palmer. Mine was pretty good, we just talked about the zone,
my area, if I'm enjoying the work, upcoming topics for zone
conferences and some other stuff like that. It was a good old chat.
After that we went home and had lunch and headed off to a doctors
appointment for Elder Andersen. After that we that we did some finding
and had two different lessons. One was with a recent convert named
Willians who is getting ready to go the temple pretty soon. He's a
great guy. We read the Book of Mormon with him and talked about the
importance of reading the scriptures often since he said he hadn't had
the chance in a while. The other lesson was with Zulima Suarez! She
and her 3 kids are going to be baptized, but Zulima works like crazy
so we've had a had time finding them at home to teach them! But we
happened to stop by that day and she had taken a day off! So that was
convenient :) later on we also had that lesson with Adrian and Ericka.
They are so solid. We taught them about prophets and talked a little
more about their baptism. We're also probably going to go with them to
general conference in October. One thing that I never got to write
much about was the lesson we invited them to be baptized in. It was
super cool because when we got there Adrian starting telling us about
a miracle that happened at work. He works in construction and he was
telling us that they had been putting up a 30 foot cement wall that
day. Well basically they had a bracket type thing hold the wall up
while they bolted it into place, and after it was secured they would
take off the bracket. But whoever was in charge of the bracket took it
off too early. As Adrian was telling us the story he started to cry
and said that the wall should have fallen and killed everyone working
on it. But miraculously it didn't fall. My companion and I almost
didn't know what to say! We could all feel the spirit so strongly in
the room. Later in the lesson we read 2 Nephi 31 and then invited them
to be baptized and they said yes! It was awesome.
Wednesday - We had to do a lot of stuff to do for the zone on Wednesday (Josh is a Zone Leader), as
well as a baptism/reactivation report for President Palmer. We also
did some contacting to try to find some new people to teach. After
dinner we had two lessons. One was with a less active named Hermana
Belmontes and the other was with Sonia. Sonia is still trying to
understand the gospel. She feels good about it and is basically living
as if she was already Mormon, but just has a few doubts. We have to
reteach her stuff a lot because she forgets a lot of stuff we teach
her. It's actually kind of funny :) She also fed us some delicious
tostadas after the lesson :) :) She just divorced her husband though,
and it's been really hard on her and her family. She could use lots of
prayers. Hermana Belmontes also could use them. She starting trying to
come back to church! She even quit her job so that she would be able
to make it. When we got there for the lesson though, someone had just
broken in and stolen about $300 dollars from her house. She was pretty
distraught, having just quit her job. We were able to share with her a
message about hope and how trusting in God and living the commandments
will bless her with the things she needs for her family, because God
always provides a way.
Thursday - we had a short weekly planning session and then drove up to
Holladay for a doctors appointment for elder Andersen. We came back in
time for a couple visits and then dinner. We were planning a super
busy night that night but unfortunately half of our lessons cancelled.
But it was okay because we still had two solid lessons, one with
Adrian and Ericka, and the other with Marco Orejuela, one of our
recent converts.
Friday - Did some solid missionary work! (Yes I'm running out of time:)
Saturday - I was sick all day with the stomach flu. It was pretty miserable.
Sunday - Felt better! Did all our usually Sunday stuff and proselytize stuff! :)
Today we had a great Hike and played some soccer!
Love you all,
Elder Baxter
